The South Beach diet is developed by American cardiologist Arthur Agatston. The book with the diet description became real best seller in USA. “Try this diet and you can go on a beach in any southern country without hesitating of your body forms, in the most open bathing suit!
)” – Millions Americans have believed to this slogan. This diet has been named also the presidential diet after rumors that Clinton couple has grown thin because of it.
The presidential diet is the power supply system which is recommended to apply during all life. It includes three stages. First two stages of a presidential diet are limited on time, they provide metabolism reorganization, organism accustoming to a new diet, and also weight losing. The diet of the third stage should proceed all life; it provides maintenance of the reached result, preservation of the good physical form.
Diet basis is practically full refusal of “bad” carbohydrates and serious restriction of consumption of “bad” fats. Inherently the southern beach diet is very close to Michel Montignac’s method, the difference is only in more simple way of that calculation/account of possible and impossible and other lists of the allowed and forbidden products.
The first stage of South Beach Diet
Duration of the first, most severe stage of a presidential diet – 14 days. At the first stage of a diet you should eat six times a day. All sugar-contain products and fat products should be completely excluded from diet.
Following products forbidden:
- sugar and any sweets, confectionery products;
- all flour products (bread and bakery products, macaroni, a batch, etc.);
- all starch-containing products (groats, a potato);
- fruit, berries, juice – they contain fructose;
- carrots, corn;
- any fat meat;
- duck, goose, chicken legs and a skin;
- fat cheeses;
- milk, yoghurts;
- alcohol.
Recommended products:
- fast meat (beef, veal, the most low-fat pieces of pork);
- chicken and turkey meat (except legs) without a skin, first of all грудки;
- fish, seafood – any kinds;
- non-starch vegetables (cucumbers, cabbage and cauliflower, beans, turnip, eggplants, green pepper, other green vegetables; 1 tomato), mushrooms, greens;
- nuts in a small amount (pistachios, peanuts, walnuts);
- egg whites;
- the low-fat cheeses, fat-free cottage cheese;
- olive and sunflower-seed oil.
Recommended products can be used in any quantity (but, certainly, not overeating), therefore you should not feel hungry. The set of recommended products at the first stage of a presidential diet is quite sufficient to provide the various, not bothering menu. Try to maintain food balance, use enough meat and both vegetables and greens. During the first stage you can loss from 6 to 12 lbs (depending on your constitution it can be other result).
The second stage of South Beach Diet
Successfully having sustained the first stage of southern beach diet you can pass to the second stage. The list of the resolved products at the second stage is much wider, but do not forget enter them into the diet gradually. At the second stage you should have six meals a day. The second stage proceeds until you reach desirable weight (or until weight stops to decrease). Pay attention to the reservation in brackets! If weight reduction has stopped during the second stage of a presidential diet, it means, that it has reached optimum value for your organism.
At the second stage the presidential diet forbids the use of following products:
- sugar and sweets, honey, jam;
- a white bread, flour products from a white flour;
- cakes, cookies, pies;
- white rice;
- a potato, carrots, corn;
- sweet high-calorie fruit and berries (bananas, pineapples, water-melons) and juice from them.
In addition to products of the first stage are resolved:
- fruit and berries, mainly unsweetened (apples, pears, peaches, apricots, citron, melons, kiwi, a mango, plums, grapes, a cherry, a strawberry, a bilberry);
- non-fat milk, yoghurt, buttermilk;
- some cereals (brown rice, barley, porridge, a buckwheat);
- black bread, first of all from a flour of a rough grinding, with bran or grain, dark macaroni;
- bitter chocolate, cocoa;
- red wine use in a small amount is supposed.
As well as at the first stage, the total of used food is not limited, however do not abuse entered products, especially flour and groats.
The third stage of South Beach Diet
The third stage of a presidential diet should proceed all life. The quantity of meals can be reduced to four. All products are resolved practically; you should avoid only a white bread and flour bakery from white flour, potato, white rice, sugar and sweets. As the author of a diet confirms, after successful passage of first two stages you will not want to use these products.
If you notice your weight has started to arrive again, you should return to the first stage for 1-2 weeks. It should be enough that the organism has corrected functioning and you have found again the former form. You can come back to the first stage of a diet for 1-3 days in the preventive purposes, for example, after a plentiful celebratory feast.
